SU TÜKETİMİ VE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ: G-7 ÜLKELERİNDEN AMPİRİK KANITLAR

Öz

Su tüketimi, ekonomik büyüme ve insan refahı üzerinde önemli etkileri bulunmaktadır. Aynı zamanda küresel ısınma ve iklim değişikliği başta olmak üzere su kaynaklarının geri döndürülemez şekilde tüketilmesi ekonomik büyümeyi olumsuz etkilemektedir. Bu açıdan su kullanımı ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki ilişkinin doğru bir şekilde ortaya konulması ve gelecekteki eğilimlerin belirlenmesi önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmada G-7 ülkelerinde su tüketimi ve ekonomik büyüme arasında Çevresel Kuznets Eğrisi şeklinde ilişkinin olup olmadığının incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda G-7 ülkelerinde panel veri analizi yapılmaktadır. Analizler sonucunda Çevresel Kuznets Eğrisi şeklinde bir ilişkinin varlığı doğrulanmaktadır. Su tüketimi ve ekonomik büyüme arasında önce artan ve sonra azalan bir ilişkinin olmasında, verimlilik ve teknolojik inovasyon faktörlerinin etkili olduğu belirtilmektedir.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WATER CONSUMPTION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM G-7 COUNTRIES

Öz

Water consumption has significant impacts on economic growth and human welfare. At the same time, the irreversible depletion of water resources, particularly global warming and climate change, has a negative impact on economic growth. In this respect, it is important to accurately reveal the relationship between water use and economic growth and determine future trends. Therefore, this study examines whether there is an Environmental Kuznets Curve-shaped relationship between water consumption and economic growth in G-7 countries. For this purpose, panel data analysis is conducted in G-7 countries. As a result of the analysis, the existence of a relationship in the form of the Environmental Kuznets Curve is confirmed. Furthermore, it is stated that productivity and technological innovation factors are effective in the first increasing and then decreasing relationship between water consumption and economic growth.
