Abstract

The Effect of Globalization on Ecological Footprint: The Case of MIKTA Countries

Year 2024, , 14 - 26, 31.01.2024
https://doi.org/10.37880/cumuiibf.1332363

Abstract

It is a well-known fact that globalization has a direct impact on economic growth through trade and foreign direct investment. However, there is no consensus in the literature on the impact of globalization on the environment. In this context, the relationship between globalization and ecological footprint, which is an indicator of environmental pollution, was examined for the MIKTA country group consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia between the 1970-2018 period. According to the results of the Panel ARDL analysis, it was determined that there is a negative relationship between globalization and ecological footprint of the MIKTA country group in the long term, and a positive relationship between economic growth and energy consumption and ecological footprint.
