A UTAUT-BASED STUDY ON THE ADOPTION OF ISLAMIC (PARTICIPATION) BANKING MOBILE APPLICATIONS IN TÜRKİYE

Abstract

This study examines the adoption of Islamic banking (Participation banking) mobile applications in Turkey within the framework of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). Data collected from 199 participants were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The findings of the study show that behavioral intention (BI) strongly and significantly affects use behavior (UB). In addition, the main determinants of BI were found to be effort expectancy (EE) and social influence (SI). In contrast, performance expectancy (PE) does not have a significant effect on BI. Moreover, the direct effect of facilitating conditions (FC) on UB was not statistically supported. The results indicate that the perception of benefit in the adoption of Islamic banking mobile applications in Turkey may have reached saturation, and that users’ intentions are shaped more by ease of use and social norms. Considering that studies addressing the adoption of Islamic banking mobile applications in the Turkish context within the UTAUT framework are limited, this study provides a noteworthy contribution in terms of filling the aforementioned gap in the literature.
