FUZZY SWARA AND FUZZY VIKOR MODEL FOR MRI DEVICE SELECTION

Öz

This study aims to provide healthcare managers with an analytical and systematic decision-support mechanism for medical technology investments. The evaluation of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system involves a complex decision-making process requiring the simultaneous analysis of conflicting and uncertain attributes such as cost, service and warranty conditions, software compatibility, patient comfort, and technical performance. To overcome the subjectivity in decision-makers' evaluations and the uncertainties in data, a fuzzy logic-based approach was adopted. The unique aspect of this study is the set of criteria developed through expert opinions in addressing uncertainties. In this study, criteria weighting was performed with Fuzzy SWARA, followed by an alternative assessment using the Fuzzy VIKOR algorithm. The data for determining criteria weights and evaluating alternatives were compiled through surveys based on the opinions of expert physicians working in the field. Analysis results revealed that image quality, total cost of ownership, service support, and patient comfort are the most fundamental parameters determining MRI device selection. For healthcare institutions to be sustainable, operating efficiently is a strategic requirement. Procurement processes for medical imaging devices, which are among high capital-intensive investments, necessitate decision-making mechanisms based on scientific methodologies due to their high costs and complex technical features. The Fuzzy SWARA and Fuzzy VIKOR methods used in this study are proposed as applicable and effective methods.
